I am new to this forum and look forward to seeing it grow. I have 2- SS overseas caps that I have been given different opinions by dealers and so called experts. If there is anyone who is knowledgeable enough to tell me if they are real or fake I would appreciate it. I will add pictures if this site has the capability. I'll have to figure out how to load them. Thanks Dail

It's the last one on the list of forums. He says to put the pictures in photobucket.com and then you can put the url on your post. I'm going to try it.

Someone else might disagree, but to me these caps look really awful! I wouldn't touch one with a 20 foot pole! If you know Dave Delich ask his advice, he'll know for sure.

These 2 do not compare favorably to any genuine examples I have examined.

There are many referance books to aid collectors in avoiding replicas.
I suggest that an investment in that area will be very helpful.

Do not feel that collecting in any field is without risk, there are reproductions of EVERYTHING from Furniture to Art, from Swords to Stamps. It does not even have to be a collectible, there are fake designer purses, watches and even fake video games and DVD movies.

So arm yourself with knowledge and buy only what you are sure of. We have all made our share of mistakes. Don't let it get you down.

Mr Treend is ruthlessly excluding reproductions and copies of all types, so this site is very reliable. That coupled with research should help you avoid most mistakes in future.

Ruthless? Me? ... anyway, I do what I can, but I don't know it all. And I can't guarantee you won't find a fake here and there. Anyone who would make a guarantee like that is being overconfident, reckless or just plain dishonest. The bottom line is, and always will be, that each collector has to learn as much as he can about his area and make his own decisions. I do strongly agreee with Nr1Seller about aquiring reference material. You can never have too much in this hobby. Over the years I've had a couple of new would-be collectors ask me what they should start collecting first. My answer has always been.... reference books![/quote]

Thanks to all for there input. I didn't feel they were right but wanted someone with more knowledge than me which isn't much when it comes to cloth items.

We need ruthless! Without it there will be a sea of crapola being posted in hopes of slipping by you.
I am happy to come to this site instead of junkBay, at least here I can find something of interest very quickly.
