I put a uniform for sale on this site and clearly said in the ad that it was a repro. Then I got a email saying it had been removed because they didn't want it on their precious web site! I could see this if I were trying to rip someone off but I saaid it was a repro so whats wrong with that. I think this is not fair and it should be ok to sell repros if you say they are. I'm ticked off! |

| poor you! even if you said its a repro that doesn't mean the next owner would. as far as I'm concerned - good riddens. |

| Perhaps it was the way your ad was worded. I don't know because I didn't see it. But something obviously bothered the site moderator about it to have it removed. I had a hat on here that was a reproduction and was clearly stated so. That ad was not removed and a pleasant sale ocurred. Might contact them to find out exactly what happened. You should never make sudden assumptions. JMO |

| You better think again. Did you see the latest thing on the What's New feature? I don't think it's a matter of wording. If you sold a repro hat on the site its because Bob T. didn't notice it. |

You're absolutely correct. I am a hard a-- when it comes to fakes. I just came home for having a nice dinner with my wife and, like I usually do, I took a look to see if there was anything new on the site. I usually go to the GALLERY first and when I did the first thing I see is a Nuremberg eagle statuette. Sure enough, it a phony. And that's not just my opinion but the seller says in is... in a roundabout way. When I look at who the seller is I'm surprised to see that it's the same guy I politely asked only 4 days ago, not to sell this type of thing on our site. One free pass per customer! So, being I such a hard a-- I cancelled his membership and that's that!
I get no enjoyement doing this. I want as many menbers and as many ads as possible, but I'll be damned if I'm going to let this site go the way of ebay and others and get loaded down with fakes. We may never have the quantity of items they do, and I may never get rich like they have, but at least this web site will be as 'clean' as possible |

And that is way cool Bob and thank you. I am guessing the reason you did not pull my add was although it was not a period piece it was in fact a piece of historical signifigance being a movie prop from Battle of the Bulge.

| I just read this thread. I'm new at this hobby so I'm not sure of something. Does all this mean that all the militaria on this site are guaranteed original by Bob Trend? |

| Bob obviously cannot guarantee any items. But...Bob does not want any repro crap on here & therfore he will boot it off if he see`s it. Therefore you can be fairly confident that what you see is genuine. However you must excercise your own judgement or seek opinions if you are in doubt. |

Welcome Stahlhelm88,
What is happening here, is an attempt to have as 'clean' a resource as we can. There is so much to know and so many variations of items (just like in the real world!) that it is up to all of us to know what we want, and know the field we are collecting in.
All of us have made mistakes and learned from them. Still there are bound to be variants both real and fake that each of us has never laid eyes on before.
Some of either may end up on the sight. Bob and others, are trying to be as diligent as possible to keep junk off of the site.
It is about as good a result as can be expected. We all choose to collect knowing that everything that exists is not original. Still, in what hobby is there 100% original and authentic items only? The short answer is that NO HOBBY IS CLEAN!
I see the phrase 'new at this hobby'. Please read all the posts in the forums. I think you will see some good concepts discussed.
Hopefully you will have a good experience as a member of this site. We have a lot of good honest people here.
It is a new site, and we are trying to develop a collecting and discussion community here, that is not just about arguing and drama.
Again, I want to welcome everyone who has joined the site, if we have not communicated yet, I am glad to meet all of you.

Hi all,
An interesting thread. I am new to this forum, but not to the hobby, having begun collecting in the early 70's when Der G. was still a few photocopied pages. I like Bob's concept regarding originals for sale and feel comfortable with his long years of experience. On the other hand, there are those in this hobby on another forum I am sure you are familiar with, the WAF, who have set themselves up as the final arbiters of originality on helmets posted there for sale. They move the thread to the helmet discussion forum and then usually proceed to trash it with one or two word posts (fake, bad fake, no good, stay away, etc.) or a thumbs down emoticon. Don't dare respectfully ask for some evidence or basis for their opinion. To disagree with them is tantamount to sacrilege!!!!
I recently had an experience there with a rare and unusual piece, a RAD double decal gladiator, seldom seen in the collecting world. Although I am a long-time RAD collector, I have specialized in identity documents and am not that great on helmets, although I do know a bit about the RAD lids. I chose to start a thread on the MCF to discuss the RAD transfer and posted all four of my RAD lids there as examples to stimulate conversation. Two were favorably received by the helmet guys there, who include Terry Goodapple and Bill Maertz, known to those of us with helmets as the authors of an excellent reference work on same.
When some unexpected expenses came up I decided to sell one of the RAD lids that was vetted on the MCF already, basing my opinioins about originality primarily on the opinions offered there.
The helmet was removed for "discussion" and that thread got very nasty when I insisted the burden of proof was on them as the helmet decriers. Things got so bad the moderator eventually closed the thread.. Also, the other RAD helmet that received favorable reviews on the MCF, an M42 single decal RAD most likely a reissued ET SS (As I was informed based on the remains of a decal on the left side that has the shape on an ET decal and the ET makers mark stamped in the shell) was described in the same thread as "a blatant fake".
One of them actually disgreed in another thread with an opinion by Ludwig Baer that a RAD helmet (not one of mine) was original without any substantiation for their negative opinion whatsoever. They told me that knowing something about the RAD organization and history was not relevant to collecting RAD helmets, yet one of them didn't realize the RAD used any leftovers they could get their hands on, including civilian models like gladiators.
I will obviously not be participating in anything on that forum again. My PM to the adminstrator about those guys went unanswered.
Has anyone else had that sort of experience on the WAF? I'm glad I found this site!!!!
Best regards to all,
Bill Bradley

Hello,
I understand that. Please read the analysis of that helmet on the MCF. I would hesitate to call it a "repro" or "junk" after what the helmet folks over there said about it. I am asking if anyone else has had that kind of bad experience on the WAF. Thanks for the comment.
Best,
Bill Bradley |
