| Hello I would like to pose a question about item#F5096.Although the helmet may be ok. Why is the HJ diamond not the same as the rest of the helmet? The eagle and the rest of the helmet show some wear,But the hj diamond looks new. With no wear at all?So I just asked myself why?Thank you for any help.David Guist. |

Hi Dave,
Yeah I was pondering that one myself. It is hard because the diamond is a very thin transfer not thick and all shiny like most repops I have seen, It may be that the HJ guy got issued a helmet from a pile of helmets trucked in from a field recovery and re-dispersal point.
The transfer, would show less wear if added later after field combat use, and then being in a fairly stable location spending a lot of time on a head or sitting around the gun position.
I do wonder why, given the need to use used helmets, the diamond decal would have been :
a. Bothered with ... except to instill pride of age and unit to the HJ kid
b. or for ID purposes under a 'dont be runnin away now kid' situation
c. or freely available and thought about while the planes were bombing cities.
Of course in Germany there was always a functionary in a pretty jacket with flashy insignias around, to dot all the i's and cross the t's and hand out decals so all would be in ordnung.
the other factor is that Mike Blus got the vast majority of all his stuff out in the boondocks of New Mexico many years back. He was finding all sorts of odds and ends, not just being a powerhouse Nazi Dealer.
He isnt a rich guy, but a hard earned items collector, who had almost no replicas ever when I did see his stuff in quantity.
He was always fairly priced and honorable for all the years he was in the Southwest, I would tend to trust what he says about an item. Did you ask him about it?
He may remember exactly how he acquired the piece. He knew exactly
Everybody needs to remember that books are largely Identification pictures and brief data on a piece. Every item has a unique history from manufacture till today. |

| Yes I did ask him about at least one or more of his helmets. I cant hounestly remeber his reply. I just believe if an item has been altered in ANY way it is no longer an original. Could be chinstaps ,decals , Linner, A patch added anything? It should not be listed as such . Best regards David Guist. |

If you cannot remember his reply, why is it we are bothered with this issue? It obviously was not important to you.
If , in your opinion an item is not what you want. DO NOT BUY IT. and let other people decide what they wish to do in their lives.
I would like to be able to decide for myself if I like an item. A replica is a REPLICA.
It is not an original item, that may have a feature one collector has a issue with.
I am satisfied that we are all getting the majority of crap off the site. If you do not want to buy a piece JUST DON'T.
I spoke to Bob and he has no list (as requested) of the items you say populate the site and are outright fakes.
If this site's not a good source, don't waste valuable time here. If not happy, perhaps there is a better place to go that will suit you.
So what about it everybody else? Anybody else see the need to redo the site to their personal satisfaction?
Has anyone actually sold anything to Dave?
Has Dave actually sold anything to anyone?
That is the primary reason for the site to exist,

Yes, and is the potential buyer not responsible in the final analysis for his criteria regarding his collecting decisions?
It is obvious YOU wish to set the conditions for what can be listed here, according to YOUR preferences and opinions.
Bob is working hard because it is not as simple or inexpensive to run a professional website like this as it is to drift in and try to stir up a controversy. He spends a lot of time and effort on further developments to the site, providing customer service, and getting rid of crap people try to list, even before it spends an hour or two listed.
That is your point. You want to define what is original for all of us.
I repeat...
Has ANYBODY SOLD EVEN ONE ITEM TO DAVE?
Has DAVE Listed any items on the site?
IF he is not buying or selling, why all this drama? |
