I was fortunate to make contact with the nephew of a WWII veteran who has items sent to him by his relative in 45. To have kept these items 63 years is nice but I thank the gentleman for letting collectors have a chance before dealers get in.
The HJ is ultra early, brass rivets, nickel silver pomel, early blood red smaller diamond (chipped darn it), early close pattern wooden grips no ricasso, motto and one runner scabbard. When I bought the knife I very much thought it was an Edward Gembruch because it was marked with an E over a G in a box . Anyway in searching out the maker mark I found the maker to be Ernst Grah which for me was a previously unknown HJ maker. I did some research and found there was a Ernst Grah who lived in Solingen in the late 20's. He was a scissor grinder by trade and a member of the communist party. He moved to the soviet union after the Nazis took over was arrested by the secret police there in 37 and died in a camp in 46. In 57 the supreme soviet declared him to have been wrongfully convicted. I find it interesting that a communist party member was making Nazi daggers if this is the same man. At this point I do not know if the Ernest Grah I found is the same as the company owner but he did live in Solingen and he did work with edged weapons albeit scissors. Any information anyone can provide would be helpful and appreciated.. |

| Super work on the backround of this maker. All I can add is that I had an SA dagger by this maker, I can't recall details on it other than It was veteran acquired in the 1960's - sold in the 1990's... |
