Let me express my opinion about one of your offerngs that
I just happened to come across when viewing your site; an oak leaf and swds set.
The only award sets that were purchased by the German
government were made by Godet, and marked either L/50 or
21, with the silver content .900.
There were certanly other companies that produced wartime
versions for private sale prior to the government prohibition of
private sales. The Steinhauer and Luck catalog as well as the
Otto Schickle catalog both illustrate Oak Leaves. Junker also
made oak leaves wartime, and perhaps they all produced
Oak Leaves and Swords, too. However, the ONLY issued
pieces that can be proved are the Godet or ''21'' marked pieces.
There was really little need for private sales, when so few awards
were made, especially with the Oak Leaves and Swords.
This piece in the link below, is not of the quality I would
expect and does not display the clear die struck surface
finish I would expect.

1.
Carefully Read My Description. What did I say?
Private purchase ... jeweler made
2.
Decide if we are comparing apples to oranges.
die struck surface ... purchased by the German
government
Hint..... Apples Red, yellow, or Green, and Oranges,
...wait for it...
ORANGE!
3. DUH....two different animals
Now we all know that with the war tearing Europe apart and the Turd Reich being crushed like an egg by the allies, that the officials had nothing better to do than constantly police the jewelers of Germany from making any officer a replacement/duplicate set of these against some regulation. And of course the Gestapo probably checked all the Jewelry makers in occupied Reich Territories daily to see to it that Godet did not lose any sales to them!
Right.
Just because you don't want to buy this example, it does not mean it is not legitimate.
The only Knight's Cross I ever found from a vet was a 2nd class iron cross, that was worn at the neck. Obviously the German had either lost the award, or it was tucked away safe somewhere. Of course it was only worth a few dollars despite coming off the neck of a Knight's Cross Winner. |

| From reading Mr. Delich's comments I get the impression that he just looked at the pictures and didn't read the ad. As to the originality of the piece, I don't have any idea and don't see how anyone can tell for sure. |

Like so much Turd Reich stuff, this is a judgement call.
If some big name owned it, and his pals said it was 'Good' it would sell in a heartbeat for 3 or 4 times the price I value it at.
Some rich guy will buy that way, and not care that he does not really know a thing about it. He buys the seller not the item.
I on the other hand had to decide the risk I was taking and analyze the piece in regards to all the details.
I do not just buy a book and that is it. I think about the realities of the time. The real situations that existed during that period.
Nobody is getting 100% accurate opinions on every item. If it makes collectors feel comfortable, to believe what they are told by eggspurtz, that is fine.
Still, that does not change reality.
The fact is, there are copies of thousands of the original Nazi items out there.
Lazy American Collectors think there is a neat clear bottom line, to be had in a nanosecond on every item. If you want an opinion a guy will be happy to let you borrow his for free. After all it is not costing him a thing to act as your mind.
Guys, this method will save you the effort of figuring out for yourself what you believe.
In the end, it is only ourselves, that we need to please. We do not buy this stuff solely to resell.
In the past I found the things that complimented an item... (a scabbard for a knife, a case for a medal, a liner for a helmet,) only AFTER! I became tired of waiting and sold the item off!
If nobody does a deal with me for this item, I am happy to maintain it in my collection.
Perhaps I will finally run across related items! |
