There have been so many people posting fake SS buckles on the site lately that it seems I spend half my time removing them. Here is a photo showing 4 types of common fakes. Look and learn!

This fake actually looks real good but the slashes in the wing feathers are really deep and boldly executed.

Shocked Hello Bob, Can you take another minute and show the backs of the 4 buckles. I have a one piece aluminium SS with a Rzm and I think it is right, but I have just gotten to the point where I will not buy one, or even consider buying one. I have a GAU Esssen, just like the one listed on this site and I was always told it was not right, it was a concept, that never went into production and only a handfull of prototypes were made. But that is another subject, this is my first post to a forum, they scare me, I never know if I am in a conversation with some one who has read a book or actually handled some of this stuff, sorry that is another conversation. I guess I would just like to see the backs of the 4 buckles you posted the picture of. are they all steel with welded hook attachments.

Hi Jack,

I can assure you that the Gau Essen buckle was produced during the existence of the third Reich. That is a fact. Whether it was issued and worn has been extensively argued for about 40 years.

Bear in mind that there is at least one pattern of pretty poorly done replica of the Gau Essen. Anybody seeing a real one would not be fooled.
