Books on buckles

I've been interested in German stuff for quite a while and finally have decided to take the plunge and collect. I like belt buckles a lot. Would any of you buckle collectors recomment the best book on buckles? I've seen one by John Angolia, are there any others worth having? Thank you in advance.

If you can, try to pick up a copy of GERMAN BELT BUCKLES by Thomas Reid. I don't think it's been in print for a while but you should be able to locate a copy. This was the first book on buckles that I know of. He didn't use any photos in the book but drawings instead, but they are very good. Hope this helps.

Hey...You can't go wrong with the second edition Angolia book. I also use the Peter Nash book on enlisted box buckles 1845-1945. With the two books together - you'll be all set in my opinion. I don't have the Reid book so I can't comment on it - but I know there are no pictures (only hand drawn examples) and with today's reproductions, I think pics are quite useful.
Please keep in mind though - that all of these reference books do have some mistakes in them. They aren't perfect...but you'd do well to get those two books and use forums like this one for more info as you get into the hobby.

I love buckle collecting - I think it's pretty cool that there are so many different kinds of buckles out there!
