| I don't think this thing ever existed in the real world. Looks like something Disney would make. I'd pass if I were you. |

This is a collecting field well known to be field rife with replicas and fantasy pieces.
What does it say about any person's earnest desire to be taken seriously, when they make almost no effort to KNOW the field?
This was found in 10 seconds by searching on google.

Earth to all collectors, how much effort are you putting into knowing the field you invest in?
I keep saying it... Do not be the guy who always has to say....'Is this thing real?' about every trinket that catches your eye and excites your imagination.
You do yourself no service, by not bringing yourself up to speed on the subject.
Further you are asking others, to be responsible for your decision making process.
How can this be a good thing?
It is your personal responsibility to approach the minefield with a knowledge of minefields, not to rely on any anonymous person to tell you where to step.
Not knowing what to do can cost you dearly.

Hmm, Ok. Did you forget something about this hobby you keep referring to as a market? (you've got your right to call it what you will) Did you start collecting because military history exited you or because you saw a chance to make a buck on 'quality investments'?
Nr. 1 Seller, why do people upset you when they ask questions here about items? Im curious because I've seen you do it everytime and well, I just dont understand your mindset there. What the heck do we have a forum for if people are going to get scolded each time they ask a whatzit worth or is it real?
Seriously if you have been at this as long as me then what does it hurt to provide someone an immediate answer that you know to be true for an item without telling them to grow a brain and do the research themselves?
And if you've been at it long enough, do you think they will. Seriously? After all these years?
I have read many of your posts and I agree with you on many points to researching items. It helps to educate yourself and really, with the internet, it isnt hard at all but if you've been at this for any length of time you know that people are just looking for a second opinion or someone to do the leg work is all. Heck, that research is part of fun of military history.
If they did the research it still helps to ask someone who has been collecting for 15 years of more like myself. It's not a popularity contest and you know, most collectors like myself dont come here to be told by dealers and sellers to stop bitching about prices either. There is no logic about increasing prices on EKs when they are as abundant as ants. Scarcity and rarity dont work, neither does condition. There isnt one other than dealers driving the prices, not buyers.
In all honesty, the high road sounds like the very same thing I've encountered on so many other forums. |

Hi Eindhoven,
I am not scolding anybody. I think it is fine for a person to spend the time to give an opinion about some aspect of an item. I agree about pips often not appearing identicle after 60+ years of existence. In fact I like that your answer contained useful interpretation of logical analysis. Instead of just passing judgement like so many 'experts', you explained the why of it to some degree.
In the long run the lack of personal expertise, will cause the majority of new collectors to drop out more than prices. People will pay for what they actually desire. They will be beaten down by always wondering, rather than knowing.
So my postings (Which take a lot of effort to compose) Advise that people get serious and do the work to know the field. I am not saying a question is not allowed. I am saying if a person is worried about something like the above pip question, he might wish to put more research into the field before buying. NOT that he should refrain from asking the question!
Are we so interested in this stuff that we don't know what is real, or what to pay for it, but we are to be considered serious motivated collectors?
If people wish to call their investing of tens, or even hundreds of thousands, of hard earned cash dollars in used military items a hobby, that is their choice.
I believe that this instills an 'I am an amateur hobbyist' state of mind, and a whole different outlook on the process.
I do not believe that talking to people as children, or being overly Politically Correct is going to do them much good.
I can see that there is a tendency to ask questions, which should have been common knowledge to anybody spending their wages on this stuff. Perhaps that is only clear to one after they have the experience of years.
If this is the case, I will try to refrain from further advising collectors to spend more time becoming competent.
The postings I have made, were intended to be in the best interests of all.
I wish you all the very best, and I hope you all have a lot of good finds and good friends devlop as a result of this site.
