I had a uniform in my collection room get chewed on by moths. I guess they were moths. Is there any way I can keep this from happening without using moth balls all over the room and making the whole house smell? Mabe one of you long time collectors know how to do this. Appreicate any advice you can share. (it was a heer nco tunic).

I really hate the little Bast*$%s ! I've had trouble with them a couple of times. I don't know how long you've had the uniform, but if you bought it recently you might have brought the moths home with it. If I get a new uniform, either by mail or otherwise, I never take it into the house untill I'm sure there are no moths in it. I'll open the package in my garage and inspect the uniform real close. You got to look under the flaps and in the folds to find anything. Then to be extra sure I put it in a gabage bag with moth balls inside the pockets, sleeves, under flaps and pore some more ball in the bag for good measure and close it up. Finally I let it set for a week, take it out, inspect it and if all looks ok, put it in my collection.

If you had moths on the uniform then you might as well figure the whole room has them and anything else made of wool you put in there is going to get knawed. I'ed use a bug bomb in the room. Be sure to read the directions first and protect anything that might not react well to the gas.

Good luck!
