The pictured item has many good looking traits and features.
Lustre, shading, colors and weaving details appear to be typical. It appears to be legitimate.
Having said that I will also say that I am not acquainted intimately with every new replica out there.
It is always possible to be stung if there has been a replica of a piece, that one has not seen before. One which is also so close as to blur the lines between original and replica.
I have never seen a replica of this cuffband, that has these traits, but as I often tell people, I do not know everything.
Holding it would give me a much better feeling for the piece, as I have many original bevo insignias to A/B comparison it to.
Unfortunately these days that is an expensive luxury most newer collectors cannot afford.
Do your research online. Find other photos of real ones and compare. Check the referance books.
If there is an inspection period, get it and compare the materials to even common bevo insignias. Then make your decision based on the sum of your efforts. |

Hi Alfalfa,
Thanks for the kind comment. Hopefully readers will think about what they are writing, and see if that is exactly what they want to be known for. I will always respond to messages and will try to keep things on subject. When these conversations descend into insults and personal attacks it benefits nobody.
I no longer actively collect, and have not for many years. Everybody complains about copies in the hobby. I was taken in more than most, because I did more transactions than most people do. I mentioned in another posting that I had my share of mistakes, both in buying and in reselling.
The replicas got so good that I got tired of the hobby and quit. 3 dealers who set up with many tables at shows, were kind enough to help me go through my collection. They bought all of the replicas that we agreed were not original items. (these were very nice replicas and would have fooled almost anybody) I do not know for certain why they were willing to buy them, or what they intended to do with them, but I was simply glad to have them gone.
What I see at all gun and militaria shows, is the same as I see everywhere that people sell stuff that is collectible. There are original items and replicas, and often they are mixed in together with the same seller's merchandise. None of them are Devils or Saints. It is a waste of time to try and define the situation, or to try and assign blame.
In this sewer of a hobby, you buy what you know you want to own, and move on. The bottom line is we live in an imperfect world, and it is up to the collector to be responsible for his own decisions. This is an extremely specialized hobby and a known minefield. Going into it unprepared and expecting perfection, is irresponsible. Those who cannot deal with this reality look for a scapegoat.
Okay I will say this just once so the world can learn the well kept secret about this hobby ...Everybody pay attention now...
*** THE HOBBY OF COLLECTING ITEMS FROM THE THIRD REICH IS RIFE WITH REPLICA ITEMS! DO NOT COLLECT THAT STUFF! REPLICAS HAVE BEEN MADE FROM THE 1940'S DURING THE WAR, UNTIL RIGHT THIS VERY SECOND! THEY ORIGINATE ALL OVER THE FACE OF THE PLANET, FROM PAKISTAN TO RUSSIA TO THE USA TO BRITAIN TO HUNGARY AND LATVIA! THEY ARE OFTEN REPRESENTED AS BEING ORIGINAL PIECES ***
Now, anybody that still is still enthusiastic enough to continue collecting, be careful, and be responsible for your own decisions.
I am here to try to participate in a polite environment. obviously that is totally at odds with the situation that exists on many other sites dealing with this hobby. It seems that a lot of people think that by getting in a area, picking sides, bitching about things, and assigning blame, that there will come a solution, nay a victory. Sounds like war huh? The net result is a power play and chaos. No real resolutions, because it does not solve anything.
I will endeavor to comment on specifics that I notice, and convey what my impression is from my own experiences. You will likely see that seldom will I condemn a piece outright. That decision is up to someone with something at stake in the deal. That person is a big boy and can handle the final investing decision.
If you see any person exclusively insulting other collectors, or condemning many items, and causing trouble and discord, you can be pretty certain that they have an agenda or a personal problem. Everyone here is trying to have nice real things to offer or to buy. Sure prices are not low, did anyone expect a 5 dollar Knight's Cross on a site full of COLLECTORS??? |
