Although we've tried to make our web site as fool proof as possible, members do sometimes encounted problems. 98% of the time it's ''user error'', and almost 100% of the time we can help.
One problem that we see frequently is with member to member email failure. For those interested I would like to explain the problem and what we've done to try to eliminate it.
Almost everyone how days has some kind of a spam blocker on their emial program. There are various ones and they work to eliminate unwanted emails. Problem is, they can also eliminate emails you want.
If we had our sytsem set up where a member's email simply appeared in their ad and the member wanting to answer the ad just sent the other member an email, it would be a real mess. A lot of the time the receiving member's spam blocker would block the incoming email. In order to overcome this each member would have to put ever other member's email address on their ''safe'' or ''approved'' list. Obviously this is not practical or ever possible. So to overcome this problem we have it set up so than when you respond to an ad the email is sent through OUR email address.
When someone joins our site they fill in their email address on the form and we automatically send them an email. They then have to click on a link to activate their account. We do this so that we can be sure their email address is valid and that our emails are getting through. The theory is that if they get our email then they'll get the emails sent by our members in answer to ads. This way only our email address has to be on their approved list, not everyones. When the receiving member answers the email then the receivers email is ''usually'' added automatically to their approved list and the two members can communicate with no problem after that. Confusing? Not really, and it works.
The probem comes in when a member changes something. He gets a new email address and doesn't update his membership profile info. Or if he does put it in his membership profile and doesn't add our email address to his new approved list. Then the incoming emails are rejected.
So, the bottom line is this. We have a good system and it works. All you have to do is be sure your email address is correct in our system and that our emails are not being blocked by your spam filter. If you are not sure about this you can send me a test email and I'll answer. Then we'll know if you're getting our emails ok. |
