I'm new to collecting and was wondering if someone could suggest any good books about how to detect reproduction daggers? I've seen some at a show that looked real to me but another collector said they were fakes. This is going to be harder than I thought. Appreciate any advice. Question

I've looked all over the net for the book and can't find one. Anybody know where I can get a copy? Thanks

I don`t know where you might find a copy but check out the auctions and also you could try a want ad in this or one of the other forums. As a beginner I would most strongly recommend that you try working with reputable dealers in the first stages because an early disappointment will kill it for you as it has for many others. Not all dealers are ridiculous on prices though of course many are, but if you shop around there are some fair deals to be had. Also you might llike to check out anything you are interested in on the auction here as Mr. Treend will not allow fakes to be listed. You can then seek opinions here, or indeed if you find one elsewhere then do get some help before you decide to spend your money.
This great hobby can be very rewarding if you play safe and get something you will be happy with. Remember to ask questions! We all started out as beginners and are happy to help out. Good luck!

''as Mr. Treend will not allow fakes to be listed.'' I try, just got through removing a real jewel of a fantasy SS dagger from the offerings.... Always remember, ultimately, you have to look out for yourself! P.S. Mr. Treend was my father, I'm Bob....

Seems to me I remember seeing some good info of fake daggers in the old DER ADLER and MILITARIA mags from long ago. I've look for some of these if I were you.

Your best bet is really to get to know some knowledgable collectors in your area and pick their brains. There is no substitute for experience.
