Your stats on the What's New

I just looked at the Whats New and saw this.

Visitors came from 7,224 distinct Internet addresses.

Does this mean that 7,224 different people looked at this web site?

I find that hard to believe. Please clarify.

Yeah Jock, I've found the stats hard to believe from almost the beginning. You're almost correct in your analysis. It means that 7,225 different computers were used to get to our site one or more times in the month.

Here's how I see it. We have over 2,500 signed-up members and I think it would be fair to say that 99+% of those guys look at the site each month. Of those members some of them have a computer at home and at work that they look at the site with. So those members actually count twice.

Then there are the ''377 distinct web sites'', these are sites that have links to our site. Those generate a lot of lookers each month, some who join, some who don't.

Then we have the search engines. ''1,067 distinct search keywords''. That means that people searching the internet found us using 1,067 different search words. That a lot of words! We are on the search engines like a rash, which is a very good traffic builder. Some might have been looking for things other than militaria, such as history buffs. But they still visited us, even if only for a minute or two.

And finally there are those on our master email list. I've spent countless hours building this list. I started it about a year before our site was launched and I'm still adding to it all the time. I send out the ''Newsletter'' to that list ever so often and it goes out to (I'm not sure the exact number) about 4 or 5 thousand. Many of them take a look. (if you don't get it you can sign up on the home page)

Finally, we have a lot of people who visit the site each month to see what's new but who haven't signed-up yet. I kind of figure they are waiting to see something they can't live without or just to lazy or dumb to sign up! Any way you cut it, it adds up to a lot of hits and I'm working to make that number even bigger. Ok, believe me now?

I found the website because i was trying to research an item im deciding to buy. Still dont know what it is but this site has a lot of ads for items so i used to to try do some research. I was also looking for a credible site to buy items so i killed 2 birds with one stone on that Yahoo! search result lol
