I would think these should be on any list.
Tora Tora Tora
Patton
Where Eagles Dare
Sink the Bismark
The Damn Busters
The Eagle has Landed
And here are three more that are very offbeat and might be hard to find, but definately worth a look. By the way, A Bridge too Far? You have to be kidding. Some of the lines in it are so corny it's embarrissing to watch!
The Wansee Conference
Zone Troopers
King Rat |

Since virtually all war movies are fictionalized entertainment for the masses, I do not judge them too harshly for inaccuracies. I also do not buy into the culture that sees any positive human achievement come out of warfare.
If you want to escape the insane greed and consumerism, of today's corrupt corporate world, and the path to ruin it has us on, buy popcorn and watch any movie. 'It blowed up Reeel Good!'
If you want reality, invent a time machine and wear body armor and stay low.
WAR, is the slaughter of the common man, to secure the goals of the rich and powerful. The true and actual reasons for any conflict, are seldom the same as the reasons used to sell it to the citizenry.
The concept of 'Winning' is for public consumption, and to assure the grieving family that the death of their loved relative, is for a greater common good.
Wars are not fought by the people who cause them. The enormous profits of war, go to those who have the agenda and pull the strings.
Seldom, do they or their children, ever serve in any combat.
If you know what warfare is, you despise it as the ultimate atrocity against humankind. For the soldier it is murder in order to survive.
